Dongguan China

After a week in Beijing, our group flew to Dongguan for a second installation of the "Looking East and West" 2019 International Art Exhibition taking place April 12, 2019.  We drove in the rain to Houjie Academy, a Buddhist temple where our work was being hung.

It's a beautiful space with half a dozen exhibition rooms surrounding a courtyard. Every room was overflowing with art from 23 Chinese and foreign artists.

The day of the opening reception was a red-carpet event filled with introductions, speeches, proclamations from government officials, and media coverage.  I felt very honored to be part of it!

In the days after the opening, we did some sightseeing, more eating and drinking with artists and curators, and we visited two sponsoring art schools to meet students and their parents.

At the V1 Education Museum of Art we talked with students about art, painted portraits, and I made some paintings for the kids. Very fun day, and the kids were adorable.

Another day at a second campus of the V1 Education Museum of Art, all the foreign artists spoke to students and parents with help of a translator.

After all this activity, we were ready for some rest, but first we took a fast train to Guangzhou to spend a couple of days before going to Hong Kong and back to San Francisco.
