bts...Behind the Scenes

Each year, Palm Springs hosts Modernism Week, with films, tours, lectures and events celebrating mid-century design and architecture. Motif Gallery has invited me to put my robot spin on Modernism, so I've created new pieces just for the show.
I thought about cement "breeze blocks" right away as an iconic feature of mid-century architecture. Breeze blocks are formed with decorative geometric cutouts to allow visibility, and are used for shade, screening, and decoration. You often see them as privacy walls in front of windows.
I'm pairing my retro-futuristic 'bots with vintage California roadmaps cut and collaged into colorful breeze blocks.
Please join me along with fellow artists Nathan Allen, Mike Foss and Jesse Fortune in Palm Springs for this fun show!
